Comfort Foods - Meat LoafThe comfort food known as meat loaf has any many family secret recipes as there are fond family memories. Jesse Brewer recalls trying to make this dish during spring break in college. His girlfriend Jill gave an assisting hand. With the idea of creating a new recipe, Jesse and Jill compared family recipes. After much consideration, the two aspiring chefs decided to come up with their own recipe. The two agreed on using ground beef. They also agreed on using minced garlic and onions. They disagreement, interestingly, on the use of a filler. Jill wanted to add Jesse's family recipe of toasted garlic bread crumbs. Jesse wanted to use crumbled baked potatoes. He thought that the combination of meat and potatoes would make this an all-time comfort food. The two compromised and combined toasted garlic bread crumbs and crumbled baked potatoes as filler for the meat loaf. The quatities and types of spices remained the same. Because the total volume was unchanged for the meat loaf, they cooked the dish at the usual temperature for the usual amount of time. This was a partnership that worked. To this day, they think of this cooking venture whenever they see a meat loaf platter.
